Most Common Freight Types

MichiganTruckingJobs.com by WDS Enterprises, Inc.

#1 Fuel:

The most common regional freight type for truck driving is delivering fuel. Since this is more difficult to deliver cross-country, typically fuel is only handled regionally for the safety of truck drivers. Along with fuel is also liquids and gas that must be transported in tanker trucks, which are also common hauls amongst regional truck drivers. This kind of haul is recommended for the intermediate to professional level truck driver that is able to handle these liquids and gases with care.

#2 Refrigerated Goods:

The 2nd most common regional truck driving haul is refrigerated goods. This requires a temperature controlled environment for perishable goods that are usually being delivered from the manufacturer straight to the retail store front. These customers are mainly grocery stores that have ordered milk, frozen goods such as ice cream, eggs, etc. Refrigerated goods require special attention from the truck driver as it has to stay within a certain temperature upon arrival, and is perfect for shorter distances in regional truck driving hauls.

#3 Dry Hauls:

The 3rd most common truck driving haul is a dry haul. This means no special trailer is involved and is typically used for dry goods to grocery stores, farms, furniture stores, etc. On the very rare occasion, there is the possibility to use an open trailer for delivering vehicles from state to state. Dry hauls are the easiest to deliver and are perfect for the beginning truck driver who wants experience on the road.

Regional Truck Driving Conclusion

Regional truck driving and hauls are ideal for the truck driver who not only wants to stay close to home, but get familiar with their routes, and build great relationships amongst their customers. Regional truck driving compensates almost as well as Over-The-Road truck driving jobs, and compensates better than local truck driving jobs. Regional truck driving for WDS Enterprises also means you will have the added benefits of insurance, CPM, and safety bonuses. Regional truck drivers are in high demand, just as much as OTR or Local route truck drivers.
